An evening of an eclectic mix of songs and dance to suit all tastes, with guest appearances from established artistes (subject to their availability). Although I had originally planned this concert with an on-stage orchestra, I have come to realise, when looking back at Julia's journey that I feel the need for this story to have a more intimate feel, and therefore decided to dispense with the orchestra and use the considerable talents of our musical director to provide the accompaniment for our guest artistes at the piano. All in celebration of a beautiful life tragically cut short.
On New Year's Eve 2013 our lives were irrevocably changed when my wife Julia was admitted to the A&E department of the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading with the first symptoms of what turned out to be a brain tumour. The prognosis was not good given the typical duration from onset to its inevitable conclusion was a mere 11 to 14 months.
The content of this concert is based around our story from first meeting until now, and the songs or the performers have close links to our journey. I will also be performing for the first time a song which I have written called 'Song for Julia'.
We have been extremely lucky to have the use of the Studio behind the Kenton Theatre to use as a hospitality/information centre, where representatives of the chosen charities will be present from midday; and where a more detailed account of the challenges we faced during Julia's Journey will be available to read.
Our chosen Charities are:
The Brain Tumour Charity, Brainstrust, Marie Curie, Sue Ryder and Macmillan.
