KENTON RAISES CURTAIN ON ITS WINTER PROGRAMME

The Kenton Theatre presents its 2008 winter programme with their new brochure now available from the theatre box office.Theatre Managing Director, Wendy Bowsher, explained that her planning team  had worked tirelessly to provide a range of productions with no less than 20 different shows. Fourteen of these are professional productions! Wendy explained the deliberate change of policy by the new Kenton Management Team to raise the profile of the theatre and attract larger audiences to more shows.

The Kenton welcomes stars of television and the two performances by Pam Ayres in February are already selling briskly. Nicholas Parsons will appear on 12th April in his highly acclaimed production of ‘How Pleasant To Know Mr Lear’. This replaces ‘Richard Bucket Overflows’! which the Kenton hope to bring back later in the year.

These shows and the tribute to ‘Flanders and Swann’ in January are ideally suited to the intimate atmosphere of the Kenton.

Patrons have asked for more laughs at the theatre-well the Kenton will provide them!! Two Comedy Nights feature some of the stand-up world’s brightest and most inventive young stars. Natalie Haynes is claimed to be the finest British female comedian currently touring the country with several appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe, while Terry Saunders and Andrew O’Neill both weave wonderful surreal tales. Never heard of them? You will-and remember, you saw them at the Kenton first.

Why not relive your youth with some lively musical evenings with tribute bands Abba Illusion and Bee Gees UK, and the real thing with Chas ‘n’ Dave.

The Kenton will always welcome our regular and very popular local amateur groups as they provide a wealth of talented entertainment. West Side Story and The Wyrd Sisters promise to offer very different types of theatre experience!

Why not dress up for ‘Old Tyme’ on Saturday 12th January? There are still some seats available for both matinee and evening performances of the Old Tyme Music Hall.

The Kenton seeks to provide something for the youngsters with Muffin Hurst’s pantomime, Mother Goose, in January. In the Easter Half Term, they can enjoy the dark and spooky whodunit Does A Monster Live Next Door? presented by Tall Stories Company this mysterious tale was premiered at the 2007 Edinburgh Fringe earlier this year and will keep you hooked to the very end. Family tickets and group discounts will be offered for this production. This company will provide a Storytelling Workshop, a 60 minute group exercise in telling a story visually? This event will be staged between the morning and afternoon performances.

The theatre is indebted to The Roy Bailey Band for bringing an evening of Fascinating Rhythms on Saturday 5th April. They are performing without a fee to assist with theatre fund raising, so please come along and support this generous gesture on what will be a fabulous evening.

Wendy invites patrons to contact the box office for more details of any of these productions and to come along and enjoy the intimate atmosphere of the Kenton.
