Whistle-stop Gilbert & Sullivan
Saturday January 30th, 7.30pm
The Putteridge Bury Gilbert & Sullivan Society returns to The Kenton Theatre, Henley-on-Thames, on Saturday January 30th with a brand new production, The Gilbert & Sullivan Sketch Show - a whistle stop tour of all 13 of the duo's operettas including HMS Pinafore, The Mikado and Pirates of Penzance.
Snapshots of the main stories are linked by theme and brought to life using the music with cleverly selected, condensed words from each show in what promises to be a lively and fun packed evening full of love potions, marriage at a young age and unrequited love. All eleven of Gilbert & Sullivan's most popular operettas are incorporated plus their two lesser known works. The songs featured include 'Here's a Howdy Do' and 'I've Got a Little List' from The Mikado; 'Never Mind the Why and Wherefore' from HMS Pinafore; 'Poor Wandering One' from Pirates of Penzance and 'The Ghost's High-Noon' from Ruddigore.
The Putteridge Bury Gilbert & Sullivan Society is a small but very talented, amateur dramatic group based in Streatley, Bedfordshire. Most of the performers in this highly experienced group have played roles in full length versions of the shows and performed at the Buxton International Festival of Gilbert & Sullivan and soprano, Laura Abella, has also sung professionally in Italy.
